About the role 

 

We are looking for a lawyer to join WildBrain’s global business and legal affairs team and, following a transition period, lead the WildBrain CPLG business and legal affairs function as part of WildBrain CPLG’s senior management team. Reporting to the General Counsel of WildBrain, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all legal and business affairs aspects across WildBrain CPLG’s global operations, including managing a high-performing contracts management team and providing excellent, strategic, and proactive legal support and advice on agency representation agreements, rights acquisitions and exploitation, intellectual property and brand protection matters, corporate organizational support, and statutory and corporate compliance.

  

Responsibilities  

  • Providing sound legal advice and collaborating with the WildBrain CPLG senior management team and staff to achieve strategic short and long-term priorities
  • Negotiating, drafting and providing strategic and timely advice on representation and master license agreements with brand owner / licensor partners
  • Interfacing with licensors to negotiate complex license agreements with proposed licensees
  • Overseeing, managing and supporting a high-performing contracts management team, and companywide pipeline / contract workflows
  • Managing statutory compliance for WildBrain CPLG’s operations, including competition laws, Treaty of Rome, and corporate statutes
  • Corporate organizational and other legal support for WildBrain’s UK and international entities and offices
  • Advising on various intellectual property / brand protection matters and parallel imports and counterfeits
  • Liaising with and instructing external counsel on foreign jurisdiction legal matters
  • Collaborating with WildBrain’s global business and legal affairs team to ensure effective legal coverage and support across its content creation, audience engagement and global licensing businesses

 

Qualifications

  • Proven legal and business judgement to make sounds decisions and effectively problem-solve
  • Positive, professional team player who can work independently, reliably, and efficiently
  • Proactive, creative, and practical; solutions-oriented to complex issues
  • Excellent drafting, time management and organizational skills to consistently deliver high quality, reliable work while meeting tight timelines
  • Curiosity and a desire to take on new and exciting challenges in a growth-oriented business and rapidly evolving environment
  • Qualified lawyer in the United Kingdom; experience in merchandising and licensing considered an asset
