About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Entertainment Lawyer (Development & Production) to join our growing Business and Legal Affairs Team in either Toronto or Vancouver.  Reporting to the Vice-President, Business and Legal Affairs, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing excellent, proactive and collaborative business and legal affairs counsel to WildBrain’s Content Development and Production teams.


Our team is responsible for negotiating the agreements relating to animation and live-action content development, creation and exploitation, including: writers, option purchase, co-development and coproduction, talent, financing and interim financing, distribution, broadcast licenses and production services.  The team is also responsible for intellectual property matters, clearances, arranging for and reporting to Canadian production funds (e.g. CMF) and Telefilm Canada for treaty co-productions, and tax credit administration.


What You’ll Do:

  • Work alongside our Business and Legal Affairs team to negotiate, draft and advise on a wide variety of content development and production agreements, including rights acquisition, co-development and co-production, production services agreements and key talent agreements
  • Advise on structuring WildBrain’s productions, international treaty co-productions, co-ventures and service productions
  • Provide solutions-oriented and timely legal and business affairs advice to development and production executives on all matters, including evaluating chain of title, clearance matters, guild and union issues and advertising and promotion


What You’ll Bring:

  • Sound knowledge and experience in entertainment law with a focus on content development and production (7-10 years, or commensurate experience); experience in animation is considered an asset
  • Proven legal and business judgement to make effective decisions and problem solve
  • Positive, professional team player who can work independently, reliably and efficiently
  • Proactive, creative, and practical solutions to complex problems
  • Excellent drafting, time management and organizational skills to consistently deliver high quality, reliable work while meeting tight timelines
  • Curiosity and a desire to take on new and exciting challenges in a rapidly evolving environment
