Overview

WildBrain is looking for a FX Supervisor to join our team!

 

In this role, you will be the creative and technical eye of the show, reviewing and supporting lighting, FX and compositing stages of the production. You will work closely with the Director and Art Director to achieve the look of the show. The ideal candidate is an experienced artist with a creative eye and the ability to guide and support their team.

 

This role will start mid April 2022.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do:

  • Work closely with Director and Art-Director to create a feature quality FX look for the show
  • Work closely with CG Supervisor and Show TD to identify and solve technical issues that arise
  • Mentor, train, and guide the FX team, in new software and through shot production
  • Review and critique the FX team via dailies or weeklies
  • Provide bid times for all FX tasks series wide
  • Collaborate with pipeline to improve FX process and workflow
  • Ensure complete and seamless integration of all FX assets within the pipeline
  • Take responsibility for all task assignments to FX team
  • Review all submitted FX for approval in dailies
  • Create and maintain FX wiki
  • Identify, communicate and implement the FX needs of the production
  • Lead the team to deliver the show needs on time and to the expected quality standards
  • Communicate and work closely with the Series Director, Art Director, CG supervisor, and the pipeline team to ensure an efficient and creative production
  • Overseeing the daily activities, leading the department, and establishing best practice workflows and guidelines for the team
  • Review, debug and improve other team members’ assets, workflows and techniques
  • Meet production deadlines and maintain regular communication with the production team
  • Implement workflow, scripts and tools as needed
  • Anticipating, communicating, and troubleshooting any creative or technical issues
  • Organizing training for new employees as well as refresher sessions for existing team members in order to keep them up to date with new tools and technics
  • Being able to determine and understand the needs, interests, strengths and weaknesses of the team and use this information to contribute to the growth and development of the modeling team
  • Working closely with management to guide artists overall professional development by providing performance feedback, mentoring, resolving performance issues and maintaining positive morale within the team
  • Assist the Artist Management and Recruiting departments in the the crew selection process
  • Be a positive and creative force in building a healthy work and team culture
  • Communicate with other supervisor and team leads on concerns and production issues ahead of time

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring:

  • 2+ years Supervisory experience in FX on a Animated Feature film or Feature Quality Episodic production
  • Proficiency in Houdini is a must
  • Proficiency in Nuke is a must
  • Expert level understanding of modelling, texturing, shading, lighting, compositing and rendering workflows
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team, often with multiple tasks and under deadline pressure
  • Ability to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas in a professional and positive manner
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficiently
  • Highly motivated, pro-active, with a solid work ethic and positive attitude

Nice to Have:

  • Python scriptiong is a plus
  • Proficiency in Phoenix FD for Maya and Bifrost is a plus
  • Experience with VRay is a plus
  • Experience with Shotgun and RV would be helpfulBachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Computer Animation, or other relevant area of study and/or equivalent job experience
  • Experience in episodic production methodologies is a benefit
