Overview

WildBrain is looking for a Lead Technical Animator to join our team!

 

In this role, you will be directly responsible for conducting quality control of all assets to ensure they are ready for production and overseeing the technical Animation team. You will be the main point of contact between the technical Animation team and the CG Supervisor, Rigging and Animation departments to ensure the technical animation requirements meet the needs of the show.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do:

  • Point of contact with Production and other departments to ensure animation delivery and requirements are met efficiently
  • Conduct model, range of motion tests for all new character builds, and rig testing to ensure rigs are production ready
  • Assist in the development of any specialized assets as needed (rig Proxy models as needed, Proxy FX for timing, and Proxy lighting for lighting reference and crowd solutions)
  • Test and provide feedback on proprietary animation tools and identify technical gaps, potential risks or issues and work on implementing solutions
  • Create setup files and show-specific cycles/poses
  • Assist in training the Animation Team on an ongoing basis both technically and creatively
  • Overseeing the technical Animation team (when applicable)
  • Be a proactive, positive and creative force on the team

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring:

  • 2+ years of experience as a Lead in the Animation pipeline (with a focus in animation/rigging)
  • Proficient in Maya and knowledge of rigging tools
  • Strong understanding of key-framed animation development processes, limitations and dependencies
  • A strong understanding of basic human kinetics and basic real-world physics
  • Thorough understanding of animation principles
  • Strong leadership, management, and organizational skills
  • Excellent team player with strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to set priorities for yourself and others, as well as manage the progress of work
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficiently
  • Ability to communicate in a professional and positive manner
  • Ability to adapt to multiple animation styles
  • Must be open to direction and able to embrace change
  • Proactive work ethic, capable problem solver with the ability to implement solutions

Nice to Have:

  • Degree/diploma in animation or equivalent
  • Shotgrid experience
  • Python and MEL scripting a plus
