WildBrain Studios is looking for an experienced Previs Supervisor to join our team!  


In this role, you work in collaboration with the Directors to define shooting style and lens packages. You establish camera blocking, lens choice and composition, while working closely with other departments to ensure smooth transitions and improved tools and processes. You oversee the daily activities and processes of the Previs team, provide training and assign sequences, while meeting the creative and scheduling requirements of the production.

What You’ll Do:

  • Supervise previs team in execution of camera lensing and staging, composition and blocking of scenes from storyboard animatics
  • In collaboration with the Co-Director and Series Director, define shooting style and lens package for series
  • Responsible for the successful completion - on time and on budget - of all tasks assigned to the previs team
  • Train and mentor new Previs Artists who are placed on the crew, and assist production & recruiting teams with hiring and sourcing of previs artists
  • Creation, maintenance and revision of previs wiki pages
  • Complete assigned sequences within scheduled timeframe
  • Continually evaluate process and workflow of previs department striving for maximum efficiency
  • Anticipate, communicate, and troubleshoot any creative or technical issues with assistance from CG Supervisor
  • Create and implement camera rigs and templates at a series level
  • Provide weekly status updates on the previs department to series producer, identifying any risks affecting show, or artist delivery
  • Liaise between all department supervisors – up and down stream - identifying needs and ensuring clean delivery of previs content
  • Create previs proxy objects for modelling team as needed
  • Work with software department to refine or develop tools and seek to improve all processes
  • Enable and foster cross-departmental communication and a creative, collaborative environment



What You’ll Bring:

  • 5+ years of experience as a Previs Artist
  • 2+ years of experience in a supervisory or lead capacity
  • Solid knowledge of Maya is essential
  • Excellent knowledge of cinematic language and camera terminology
  • Ability to interpret storyboards and realize them in a 3D environment
  • Firm understanding of cameras, staging, composition, perspective, pacing, timing and cinematography concepts in animation context
  • Excellent at communicating creative and technical thoughts and ideas in a positive, professional manner
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, often with multiple tasks and under deadline pressure
  • Encouraging attitude towards feedback and new initiatives

Nice to have:

  • Degree/diploma in fine arts or animation or equivalent experience an asset

  • Basic modeling and rigging is an asset

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Computer Animation, or other relevant area of study and/or equivalent job experience
