The Role


The Current Executive, Live Action (6-Month Mat Leave) is responsible for the creative execution of WildBrain’s diverse slate of original IP and existing brands. WildBrain’s live action slate covers multi-genre from preschool to family programming and appeals to domestic and international buyers.


A key focus of the production slate is building properties to become strong brands and activate the expertise of each division to create successful franchise. Creative excellence will be achieved by working in close collaboration with the Sr. Director, Live Action and the EVP, Content to ensure we meet the creative goal posts set out in development and ensure it’s upheld/exceeded as we move through the series production life cycle.


The Current Executive, Live Action has the responsibility of overseeing the creative execution of key stage of production and maintaining strong relationships with all key creatives and network executives on each series, while challenging teams to achieve creative excellence.  


What You’ll Do:

  • Ensure a smooth transition through the greenlight process, guiding projects creatively from development into production
  • Working with the Director, Live Action, oversee the hiring of the core creative team on each of WildBrain’s live action projects, including: Director, DOP, Cast, Writers, etc.
  • Work closely with Producers / Executive Producers, Directors, Network Executives and Creators/Showrunners on each project to ensure their goals and expectations for the series are met throughout production and when a disagreement/challenge arises be across and lead solutions
  • Attend all key creative meetings for projects in production (e.g. network meetings, story rooms, screenings, etc.)
  • Lead and provide creative feedback on all creative stages of the production life cycle where the Current Executive is lead creative executive for WildBrain (e.g. scripts, casting, rough cuts, mixes, etc.)
  • When required, be on set during shoot for projects based in Toronto
  • Raise any red flags throughout the production process to ensure EVP, Content and Sr. Director, Live Action are aware of potential challenges or ongoing issues
  • Lead and Present monthly updates to the division heads across WildBrain to ensure everyone is aligned on how a production is evolving and allow them an opportunity to weigh in with feedback
  • Occasionally attend and potentially lead consumer product and network pitch meetings on projects in production


What You’ll Bring:  

  • 5-8 years experience working directly with key creative crew and broadcast/distribution stakeholders with direct experience on production required
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects at a time
  • Strong contacts and knowledge of key creative crew
  • A team player, personable and ability to work effectively within a small and larger team
  • A leader who is able to manage up and manage down equally well
  • Entrepreneurial and self-starter who can be effective working independently
  • Ability to embrace change and persevere calmly when faced with difficulties
  • An effective and courteous communicator – in person, on paper, via email or over the phone – who can establish and sustain relationships, successfully share ideas, capably inform and work well with others
  • Excellent organizational skills coupled with the ability to multi-task and oversee multiple projects simultaneously
  • A strong team work ethic
  • A profound knowledge and love of television!
