Overview

WildBrain is looking for a Lead Surfacing/Texture Artist, 3D to join our exciting new animated Sonic the Hedgehog series, Sonic Prime, set to premiere worldwide in 2022.

 

In this role, you have exceptional skills and experience in surfacing and texturing. You will be responsible managing the Surfacing/Texturing team, reviewing their work and providing feedback that represents the look of show established by the Series Director and Art Director. In addition, you will also create characters, props and set models that accurately represent the creative goals while meeting the scheduling requirements of the production.

 

This 24-episode animated adventure for kids, families, and long-time fans draws upon the keystones of the brand and features the “Blue Blur” of video game fame in a high-octane adventure where the fate of a strange new multiverse rests in his gloved hands. Sonic’s adventure is about more than a race to save the universe, it’s a journey of self-discovery and redemption.

 

This feature quality episodic series will deliver the visually captivating, binge-worthy story that Sonic fans new and old are sure to love. We are on the hunt to find passionate and talented folks to join this team and help us really bring the blue blur to life!

Responsibilities

  • Carrying forward the vision/ look of show of the Director and Art Director to the expected standard of quality.
  • Creatively Lead the Surfacing/Texturing team, assign workload, set and maintain standards of all work completed.
  • Communicate and work closely with the Modeling Supervisor, Series Director, Art Director and CG Supervisor to ensure an efficient and creative production.
  • Overseeing the daily activities, leading the department, and establishing best practice workflows and guidelines for the team.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficiently
  • Review artist’s work as well as mentor artists when needed
  • Collaborating with modelers, designers and lighters to achieve both creative and technical goals within scheduled time frames.
  • Meet production deadlines and maintain regular communication with the production team.
  • Strong eye with the ability to communicate creative and technical ideas/ processes.
  • Interpret and implement notes and feedback from directors and supervisors in a timely and qualitative manner.
  • Assist the production on asset bidding and shot breakdowns.
  • Provide workflows, guidelines and art process through wiki documentation
  • Carry out duties in a professional and positive manner.

 

Qualifications

  • Experience working as a surfacing lead/ strong senior in episodic animation or VFX series.
  • Strong knowledge/ understanding of Substance Painter, Maya and Katana.
  • Knowledge in Mari and Zbrush preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of render engines such as Arnold and Renderman.
  • Strong knowledge of shaders. materials and shading networks.
  • Strong knowledge of UV unwrapping and efficient udim layout.
  • Highly motivated, pro-active, with a solid work ethic a positive attitude and a willingness to learn and grow.
  • Good knowledge of the production process and pipeline as well as a clear understanding of modeling and lighting.
  • Understanding of Shotgrid (formerly Shotgun) or other production tracking software.
  • Critical thinker with an ability to predict potential problems and troubleshoot as necessary.

 

Bonus:

  • Experience in modeling, ZBrush, Mudbox
  • Experience in Substance Designer/ Substance Alchemist
  • Experience in Nuke
  • Traditional art skills
