Overview

WildBrain is looking for two Animation Directors to join our Vancouver studio for a Feature Quality episodic production. We can’t say what it is yet, but it is an action oriented global franchise with beloved characters!

 

In this role, you will be responsible for setting the show's animation style, establishing workflows, managing animation teams, and training and tasking artists. You will work closely with the Directors, Rigging Supervisor, Modeling Supervisor and Animation Leads to successfully meet the show’s technical and creative needs.

 

We are currently working virtually because of the Covid-19 pandemic. During this time our hiring teams are ready to support interviews via video conferencing, and we are enabling artists to work from home until the studio can reopen. We’d love to hear from you! #stayhomestaysafe!

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the Directors, the Animation Director is responsible for directing, defining and maintaining the continuity of performance throughout the production
  • Continually evaluate and improve story, performance, shot flow, shot design and overall creative appeal
  • Oversee the daily activities of the animation team with the Animation Leads who head up each team
  • Direct animation and provide feedback to animators on composition, timing, performance, staging, blocking and overall style
  • Review the work of each Animator on a regular basis and approve shots for submission to the client
  • Collaborate with Production Management to ensure show status is effectively communicated throughout production
  • Identify actions necessary to achieve task completion and to obtain results while meeting schedules, deadlines and performance goals
  • Partner with Production and Artist Management to guide artists’ overall professional development, providing performance feedback, mentoring, assisting with resolving performance challenges and maintaining positive morale among the team
  • Foster and enable communication and collaboration across departments
  • Work with production team to identify appropriate staffing levels and needs
  • Set goals for others that can be achieved using available resources, and use previous measurable performance to establish goals within projected timeframe

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of 3D Animation Direction / Supervision experience in Feature Level Animation or equivalent episodic series
  • Fluent in Maya
  • Excellent understanding of animation principles and application in 3D
  • Strong understanding of cinematic storytelling principles and techniques
  • Ability to effectively give direction and communicate storytelling
  • Ability to identify strengths and weakness of animation team and elevate the team creatively
  • Ability to remain flexible and adaptable to meet the changing needs of production
  • Ability to set priorities for yourself and others, as well as manage the progress of work
  • Enjoy working in a team atmosphere and take a proactive approach to work
  • Excellent management and problem solving skills
