Overview

WildBrain is looking for a Lead Technical Animator to join our Vancouver studio.  In this role, you will be directly responsible for conducting quality control of all assets to ensure they are ready for production. You will work with the CG Supervisor, Rigging and Animation departments to ensure the geometry and rigs meet the needs of the show.

 

These roles are set to begin in Summer 2020.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct model and rig testing to ensure rigs are production ready
  • Conduct range of motion tests for all new character builds
  • Create show-specific cycles/poses
  • Create and rig Proxy models as needed, Proxy FX for timing, and Proxy lighting for lighting reference
  • Assist in the development of any specialized assets as needed
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of crowd solutions
  • Test and provide feedback on proprietary animation tools
  • Assist in training the Animation Team on an ongoing basis both technically and creatively
  • Liaise with Design, Modelling, Rigging, Lighting and FX to ensure delivery of dependent assets
  • Identify technical gaps that may exist on episodes and implement solutions
  • Troubleshoot animation and rigging issues and provide solutions for finalizing the animated look of a character or prop into a scene
  • Foster and enable communication and collaboration across departments
  • Complete assigned animation within scheduled timeframe
  • Work with the Production team to ensure timely deliveries
  • Help the artists on the team to ensure their output is both technically and artistically correct
  • Initiate and maintain clear communication with Department Leads/Supervisors regarding project status and potential issues that may arise
  • Identify potential risks or issues and work on a mitigation strategy
  • Work collaboratively as part of the Senior Production Team
  • Create setup files for assigned team, ensuring scene continuity is maintained
  • Be a positive and creative force on the team

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience as a Lead Animator in the animation industry
  • Proficient in Maya
  • Good knowledge of rigging tools in Maya
  • Strong understanding of key-framed animation development processes, limitations and dependencies
  • A strong understanding of basic human kinetics and basic real-world physics
  • Thorough understanding of animation principles
  • Strong leadership, management, and organizational skills
  • Excellent team player with strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to set priorities for yourself and others, as well as manage the progress of work
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficiently
  • Ability to communicate in a professional and positive manner
  • Ability to adapt to multiple animation styles
  • Must be open to direction and able to embrace change
  • Proactive work ethic, capable problem solver with the ability to implement solutions

Bonus:

  • Degree/diploma in animation or equivalent
  • Shotgun experience
  • Python and MEL scripting a plus
