Overview

WildBrain is looking for an experienced content development and production Senior Business Affairs Analyst to join its Legal and Business Affairs Team in Toronto.  Reporting to the Manager, Legal and Business Affairs, the successful candidate will be responsible for drafting, reviewing, administering and negotiating various content rights, development and production agreements.

We also license consumer products and location-based entertainment in every major territory for our own properties as well for our clients and content partners.

Responsibilities

What you'll do: 

  • Draft and administer various production agreements and related documentation, such as rights acquisition agreements and above the line talent agreements for our various properties
  • Prepare and administer various applications for private and public production funding, including CMF and tax credits;
  • Prepare start up paperwork for our various series with the applicable guilds and unions (i.e. WGC, WGA, ACTRA, DGC) and liaise with same to address matters related to such guilds and unions, particularly the Writers Guild of Canada and the Writers Guild of America
  • Keep up to date with various funding guidelines as well as guild and union agreements
  • Collaborate with the business teams to ensure that creative objectives are met while complying with legal, guild and union requirements
  • Work with legal counsel to oversee IP related issues and requirements (i.e. copyright applications, maintaining trademarks and DMCA takedown requests)
  • Bring material business and legal matters to the Vice President, Global Legal and Business Affairs
  • Allocate, oversee and review development and production paperwork prepared by the legal coordinators and provide guidance when needed

Qualifications

What you bring:

  • A minimum of 7 years of work experience in entertainment/media industries in a deal-facing role (i.e. Business Affairs, Contracts Manager, etc.)
  • Experience as a paralegal or contract administrator would be an asset
  • Strong proofreading skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to effectively communicate with external and internal contacts.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage changing priorities effectively
  • Excellent, proactive client service that facilitates business goals
  • Sound judgement to make effective decisions and problem solve
  • Positive, professional team player who can work independently, reliably and efficiently
  • Intellectual curiosity and the willingness to try new things in an effort for continual improvement of yourself, those around you and the business
