    WildBrain is looking for an experienced broadcast and content distribution lawyer to join is Legal and Business Affairs Team in Toronto.  Reporting to the Director of Legal and Business Affairs, the successful candidate will handle a wide variety of commercial matters relating to the operation of its television channels and worldwide distribution of its content.

With approximately 13,000 half-hours of filmed entertainment in our library – one of the world’s most extensive – we are home to such brands as PeanutsTeletubbiesStrawberry ShortcakeCaillouInspector Gadget and Degrassi. Our shows are seen in more than 150 countries on over 500 telecasters and streaming platforms. Our television group owns and operates four family entertainment channels - Family Channel, Family CHRGD, Family Jr. and Télémagino -  that are among the most-viewed in Canada.  Our AVOD business – WildBrain Spark – offers one of the largest networks of kids’ channels on YouTube, with over 145 million subscribers. We also license consumer products and location-based entertainment in every major territory for our own properties as well for our clients and content partners.

    Responsibilities

    • The opportunity to expand your practice across other areas of the business, working across the legal team

    What you’ll do:

    • Provide proactive, solutions-oriented legal and business affairs advice relating to the operation of Canadian television services and worldwide distribution of content
    • Negotiate and draft a wide variety of commercial agreements, including content acquisition, television and content distribution
    • Advise on advertising, marketing, consumer protection and privacy matters
    • Prepare regulatory reports for submission to the CRTC
    • Day-to-day coordination with and providing guidance to contract administrators

    Qualifications

    What you bring:

    • Lawyer in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario with at least 2 years experience either in Canadian television broadcasting or international content distribution
    • Understanding of content rights and distribution strategies across all platforms worldwide
    • Excellent, proactive client service that facilitates business goals
    • Sound legal and business judgement to make effective decisions and problem solve
    • Positive, professional team player who can work independently, reliably and efficiently
    • Intellectual curiosity and the willingness to try new things in an effort to continually improve yourself, those around you and the business
