    The Role:

    The Development Manager is responsible for reviewing, tracking, providing feedback and clear communication on the diverse slate of original IP and partnership opportunities that come into Wildbrain for consideration. Wildbrain’s content slate is multi-genre from preschool to teen programming and appeals to domestic and international buyers. A key focus of the slate is building properties to become strong brands and activate the expertise of each division to create successful franchises.  Creative excellence will be achieved by working in close collaboration with the Director of Development and Development Executives to ensure all divisions within DHX are active across our key development initiatives.  The Development Manager has the responsibility of maintaining strong relationships with key contacts within the television industry including; writers, artists, agents, coproducers, etc. while forging new relationships within creative community to ensure opportunities come in from a diverse range of sources and remain innovative, timely and commercial.

    Responsibilities

    You will get to work on:

     

    • Core focus on organizing the flow of submissions coming into Wildbrain including:
      • Tracking delivery
      • Submission agreements in place
      • Internal Feedback
      • Communicating pass or acceptance letters/phone calls
    • Read and provide coverage (create synopses for each project, strengths/weaknesses of the project, where the project could live in the marketplace, who the show is for (demo/educational goals, etc.))
    • Creatively champion projects that meet the goals and mandates of Wildbrain’s slate objectives i.e. present internally pitches that should be considered
    • Schedule and host bi-weekly submission review meetings to discuss opportunities that have come up
    • Schedule and host tri-weekly cross development meetings with the Spark and Wildbrain Content teams
    • Work with the development team on specific research projects e.g. creating decks for a show’s kick off (outlining competitive shows in the marketplace, tone examples, etc.)
    • Attend weekly development meetings with the animation team to ensure it’s clear what the team is looking for
    • Attend weekly development meetings with the live action team to ensure it’s clear what the team is looking for
    • Attend brainstorm summits to discuss what is needed on the slate and bring ideas to the table
    • Monitor and remain current with the trends in programming
    • Manage maintenance of submissions database and option renewals, etc.
    • Occasionally review ongoing development materials (scripts, bibles, designs, etc.) when the team would like another creative opinion
    • Occasionally help the development team with records or script meetings (booking talent or attending record and /or writing summits to take minutes)

    Qualifications

    You will be a great fit on our team  if you have …

    • A creative individual with a track record producing and/or developing kids and family television series with commercial appeal
    • Ability to produce script coverage and analysis, write synopses and loglines, and write effective development notes a must
    • Contacts within the production and broadcast industry
    • Proven leadership ability
    • 3-5 years’ experience developing and producing Kids and Family Content
    • The confidence to believe in your gut reaction to a project and fight for it, and ultimately a love for what we’re making, kids and family tv!!!
    • A team player, personable and an ability to work effectively within a small and larger team
    • A relationship builder, patient and assertive, with a strong creative vision and orientation
    • A creative thinker, an intellectual curiosity, a wide range of interests, and able to identify and leverage new trends
    • Ability to embrace change and persevere calmly when faced with difficulties
    • Excellent communication skills with a demonstrative passion for selling an idea
    • A profound knowledge and love of television
    • High energy, hard working and committed to continuing the tradition of developing high-quality programming for TV viewers worldwide in a variety of formats
