  • Overview

    Purpose of the role

    To set up and maintain the information technology systems within the company, overseeing installation, ensuring back-up systems operate effectively, purchasing hardware and software, providing the ICT technology infrastructures for the organisation and contributing to organisational policy regarding quality standards and strategic planning.

     

    Background

    WildBrain IT utilises a wide variety of technologies across it’s European offices, with Microsoft products such as Azure/Office 365 supporting all offices, while G Suite, Google Cloud Platform, and AWS are integrated with the video/media and software development operations at WildBrain London and EU. Both PC and Mac hardware are used extensively within the business, while server infrastructure is split between Linux and Windows Server. WildBrain is primarily a media-based company and has an IT infrastructure built around media operations, such as media asset management, video editing, video rendering, large-scale storage, and uploading video content to online platforms.

    Responsibilities

    Manage the IT function in WildBrain’s European presence:

    • Monitor and oversee the IT operations within the department
    • Provide regular updates to the WildBrain Senior Management Team, WildBrain Toronto IT management, and other key stakeholders.
    • Develop and implement change management policy to ensure all work is risk assessed, prioritized, tracked, and documented to ensure minimum disruption.
    • Consult regularly with senior management to identify areas where technology can support overall business objectives, and guide the IT strategy in these areas.
    • Provide project plans for IT initiatives, including schedule and resource requirements
    • Develop and implement standardized IT policies and processes for both end-users and within the department itself.
    • Recruit, mentor and train new and existing ICT support staff.
    • Plan, develop and implement the ICT budget, obtaining competitive prices from suppliers, to ensure cost effectiveness
    • Schedule upgrades and security backups of hardware and software systems
    • Research and install new systems
    • Ensure the smooth running of all ICT systems, including anti-virus software, and email provision
    • Ensure that software licensing laws are adhered to
    • Provide secure access to the network for remote users
    • Ensure the security of data from internal and external attack
    • Provide users with appropriate support and advice
    • Manage crisis situations, which may involve complex technical hardware or software problems
    • Keep up to date with the latest technologies
    • Manage the telephone network hardware and ensure support contracts are maintained

    Technical Skills:

    Experience with the following technologies is highly desirable:

    Networking

    • Fortinet networking appliances, Firewalls
    • Meraki switches
    • Meraki wireless AP

    Storage

    • Cohesity NAS
    • QNAP NAS

    Communications

    • Skype for Business (using Yealink IP phones)
    • Microsoft Teams
    • Mobile handsets: iPhone & Android
    • Office 365 (Outlook)

    Desktop Hardware

    • Mac (Macbooks + iMacs)
    • PC (Laptops + Editing Suites)

    Software

    • Adobe CC (Premiere, Photoshop, After Effects)
    • Office 365

    Cloud

    • Amazon Web Services (primarily S3 for backup & DR)
    • G Suite
    • Microsoft Azure

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Degree educated ideally or relevant experience
    • Microsoft Certification beneficial
    • At least 5 years previous experience in IT Management role
    • Proven know-how in working in fast-paced, demanding, multi-site environments
    • Experience of building, developing and motivating a multi-site team
    • Managing projects across territories with the ability to think globally and locally and able to build a responsive, agile IT function that enables the business
    • Collaborative with strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Understanding of how to operate budgets/projects and within compliance/GDPR/SOX
    • Passion for technical solutions, with proven commercial acumen
    • A problem solver and solution finder and able to instill this in the team
    • A Leader/Manager and able to lead by example
